| | |
2. | AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY |
| Area meteorological watch is provided for the Banjul CTR on a H24
basis. |
| | |
| | |
3. | TYPES OF SERVICES PROVIDED |
| Personal briefing and consultation for flight crew members or their
operators local repre-sentative is provided at the Meteorological Office of the Banjul
International Airport. |
| Flight documentation is normally provided for international flights and
comprises a significant weather chart, an upper wind and upper air temperature chart and
the latest available aerodrome forecast for the destination and alternate
aerodromes. |
| | |
| | |
4. | NOTIFICATION REQUIRED FROM OPERATORS |
| Notification from operators in respect of briefing, flight documentation,
consultation and other meteorological information needed by them is normally required for
all operations. Such notification should be received at least three (3) hours before the
expected time of departure. |
| Unscheduled flights are handled on short notice. |
| | |
| | |
5. | OBSERVING SYSTEMS AND OPERATING PROCEDURES |
| Surface wind is measured by cup anemometers located at a lateral distance
of 150 m from the runway centerline. Wind indicators are located in the airport
meteorological station and in the air traffic control unit. |
| RVR observations are not normally made because horizontal visibility
rarely falls below 1500m. |
| However, if the RVR falls below 1500m, the visi-bility is determined by
using the distances between runway lights. |
| Cloud heights are normally estimated. If the cloud amount is significant
and the cloud base very low, ceiling balloons are used to ensure accurate cloud base
measurement. |
| Pending the availability of remote sensing equipment, the air temperature
on the aero-drome is measured by thermometers. |
| Station level pressure is measured with a Kew Pattern Barometer. |
| | |
| | |
6. | AIRCRAFT REPORTS REQUIRED FROM OPERATORS |
| Pursuant to ICAO Annex 3, 5.3.1, the making and transmission of aircraft
reports (AIREP) are required at the time of observation |
