GEN 3.2   AERONAUTICAL CHARTS

1.RESPONSIBLE AUTHORITY
The Gambia provides only those charts associated with the AIP, as listed under paragraph 4.1 of this subsection.
Listed under paragraph 4.2 of this subsection are those charts relevant to the Dakar FIR, used by the Gambian ATS Division. For a complete additional list of charts, consult the ICAO Aeronautical Chart Catalogue (Doc 7101-MAP/565).
The charts are produced in accordance with the provisions in the following ICAO documents:
Annex 4 - Aeronautical Charts
Doc 8168 – Aircraft Operations, Volume II (Construction of visual and instru-ment flight procedures).
2.MAINTENANCE OF CHARTS
The charts listed under paragraph 4.1 of this subsection are regularly kept up to date or are replaced by AIP amendments. Significant amendments or revisions will be promulgated by AIP supplements and included in subsequent AIP amendments if appropriate. Information concerning new aeronautical charts will be notified by AIC.
If incorrect information detected on published charts is of operational significance, it is corrected by NOTAM.
The charts listed under paragraph 4.2 of this subsection are amended and revised by the publishers concerned; however users are requested to assist in this process by bringing errors or omissions to the attention of the GCAA.
3.PURCHASE ARRANGEMENTS
The charts as listed under paragraph 4 of this subsection may be obtained from:
Postal Address: Gambia Civil Aviation Authority Banjul International Airport
P. O. Box 285 The Gambia

AFS Address:GBYDYAYX
A limited supply of these charts is also available from the AIS Unit at the Banjul International Airport.
The charts as listed under paragraph 4.2 of this subsection may be obtained from:
The Civil Aviation Authority and the Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) hold copies of the ICAO Aeronautical Chart Catalogue (Doc 7101 MAP/565), wherein all aeronautical charts or chart series produced by this and other countries are listed, and known to be generally available to civil aviation.
4.AERONAUTICAL CHART SERIES AVAILABLE
The following series of aeronautical charts are published by the GCAA:
Aerodrome Chart – ICAO
Instrument Approach Chart – ICAO
The following series of aeronautical charts are produced and published by other organizations in other ICAO contracting States:
Radio Navigation Chart
World Aeronautical Chart – ICAO 1:1.000.000
5.GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF EACH SERIES
Instrument Approach Chart – ICAO
These charts are produced for all aerodromes used by civil aviation where instrument approach procedures have been established.
A separate Instrument Approach Chart – ICAO has been provided for each approach procedure.
The aeronautical data shown include information on aerodromes, radio communication facilities and navigation aids, minimum sector altitude, procedure track portrayed in plan and profile view, aerodrome operating minima, etc.
This chart provides the flight crew with information which will enable them to perform an approved instrument approach procedure to the runway of intended landing including the missed approach procedure and where applicable, associated holding patterns.
Aerodrome Chart – ICAO
This chart is available for aerodromes designated for use by international commercial air transport and contains detailed aerodrome data to provide flight crews with information that will facilitate the ground movement of aircraft between runways and aprons.
Radio Navigation Chart – ICAO
These are published and available from commercial charting agencies, and are obtainable from the charting agency as listed under paragraph 3.3 of this subsection. They are designed to facilitate navigation by radio aids, in accordance with published procedures, along ATS routes and depict all relevant data including airspace boundaries and limitations.
World Aeronautical Chart – ICAO 1:1.000.000
These charts are published by the MOD (UK) and the DOD (USA), and are also obtainable from the charting agency as listed under paragraph 3.3 of this subsection.
The aeronautical data shown has been kept to a minimum, consistent with the use of the chart for visual air navigation. It includes a selection of aerodromes, significant obstacles, elements of the ATS system, prohibited, restricted and danger areas, and radio navigation aids. The chart provides information for pre-flight planning and pilotage.
They are constructed on the Lambert Conformal Conic Projection. The sheet numbers of the ONC chart series, relevant to The Gambia, are listed under paragraph 6 of this subsection.
