GEN 1.3   ENTRY, TRANSIT AND DEPARTURE OF PASSENGERS AND CREW

1.IMMIGRATION REQUIREMENTS


Arriving Passengers
A person entering The Gambia for the purpose of immigration must hold a valid passport, immigration visa and entry clearance, the latter being issued by a Consulate of The Gambia abroad.
Temporary visitors must be in possession of a valid passport with the exceptions of nationals who possess valid, official documents of iden-tity such as national registration cards or alien resident permits instead of a valid passport.


Departing Passengers
All persons leaving The Gambia must present a valid travel document for inspection.


Transit Passengers
No documents are required of passengers arriving and departing on the same flight.


Arriving, Departing and Transit Crew
Licensed crew members on scheduled services who stay at the airport of destination and the confines of the adjacent cities thereto, and depart again on the same aircraft on scheduled services of the same airline, those crew member identification or certification is accepted in lieu of a passport or visa for temporary admission into The Gambia.
2.CUSTOMS REQUIREMENTS


Arriving Passengers and Crew
Personal baggage and belongings are immediately released to the customs area, must be produced to the customs and might be subject to interrogations. All baggage has to pass through the scanning machine before inspection. Those baggage selected by the customs officer are to be inspected.


Departing and Transit Passengers and Crew
No customs formalities are normally required on departure or in transit. For departing and transit passengers may at times be encountered with customs formalities if suspected of being in possession of contrabands or restricted items.
3.PUBLIC HEALTH REQUIREMENTS


Arriving and Transit Passengers and Crew
Disembarking passengers are not required to present vaccination certificates unless coming from infected or endemic areas. The health officer is to be promptly notified of any passenger illness.


Departing Passengers and Crew
Restricted all departing passengers should meet requirement of country of destination before boarding. ..
4.SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
Banjul International Airport is opened 24 hours per day throughout the year, serving the needs of both Chartered and Scheduled carriers operating on International routes world wide. In addition, the airport caters for private jets, micro-lights, cargo and military aircraft.




Access Control
Banjul International Airport is divided into two areas namely Public Areas (Land Side) and Restricted Areas (Air Side).


Public Area
Public areas are areas of the airport in which it is not necessary to display either an airport Identity Card or in possession a flight ticket in order to gain access or to remain in. Non theless landside security measures are instituted to control the movement of people in and out of the airport in order to detect acts of unlawful interferences .


Restricted Areas
Restricted areas are areas of the airport where it is necessary to either be wearing an airport Identity Card or to be in possession of a flight ticket in order to gain access to or to remain in.
For ease of control, restricted areas are identified by the use of alphabetical letters to identify different areas of the airport. Any person going to the restricted areas must conform to security check and inspection including staff base on their area of operation as reflected on their identity card.
However, movement of persons having access to the restricted areas is subject to conditions prescribed in the Banjul International Airport Identity Card Policy. Persons having access to the restricted areas of the airport only access areas of their responsibility which also reflect on their Airport Identity Card.
In the case of Passengers, they all go through security formalities and when they enter the Departure Hall, they will not be allowed to go out again unless otherwise and that they are needed by the Security or Airline staff, based on security concerns.


Access Restrictions
Access to the restricted zone is authorized only under conditions prescribed by the special rules governing the aerodrome and airport identity card policy. The Customs, Police and Health Inspection Offices and the premises assigned to transit traffic are normally accessible only to passengers, to staff of the public authorities and airlines and to authorized personnel in pursuit of their duty. The movement of persons having access to the restricted zone of the aerodrome is subject to the conditions pre-scribed by the air traffic regulations and by the special rules laid down by the person responsible for the management of the aerodrome.


Traffic Restrictions
The movement of vehicles in the restricted zone is strictly limited to vehicles drivers or used by persons carrying a traffic permit or an official card of admittance. Drivers of vehicles of any type driving within the confines of the aerodrome must respect the direction of the traffic, the traffic signs and the posted speed limits (aerodrome rules and regulations). They must generally comply with the provisions of the Highway Code and with instructions given by the competent authorities.
In the case of Vehicle control, all vehicles having operational needs to come to the airport are issued with Vehicle Stickers. Vehicles stickers are also in different colours reflecting the areas a particular vehicle is authorized to access.
5.LIABILITY
Care and protection of aircraft, vehicles, equipment and goods for which the aerodrome facilities are used is not the responsibility of the State or any concessionaire. They cannot be held responsible for loss or damage due to waiving any action.
